Three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas had a lot to say about LeBron James on August 8. During an episode of “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas,” Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy appeared as a guest and Arenas said that James is the only superstar who has never chased stats.
“LeBron is probably the only player, the only superstar, that never had that year,” Arenas said about players chasing stats. “He never had that year where he says, ‘Eh, forget everybody, I’m trying to get my stats.’ Cuz I said if he ever did that, who’s stoppin’ him?’ That man would average 40 somethin’.”
James has averaged 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 38.2 minutes over 1,366 career games with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers. The 37-year-old has won NBA championships with these three teams.
Arenas also told Handy that James only cares about winning championships.
“When LeBron stepped in, it was all about trying to win a championship. Every year, trying to win a championship. So he’s been building the teams to try to win championships. So he’s never actually had a selfish year where he says, ‘I don’t need anybody. I want to show the world what I can do.’ That is insane to me.”
Janes has been hurt more often in recent years, though he plays at a high level every season. James has missed 84 regular season games since joining the Lakers in 2018. He has averaged 27 points, 8.2 assists and eight rebounds in 35.2 minutes over 223 games with the Lakers.
